Whenever I use Freetrack, it crashes. I have tried version 2.1.2 and 2.2.0 and it's the same in both. I think I followed the instructions in the manual. This is what I do:
- put a red led on my head in front of the webcam and switch it on
- the webcam has been tested and works: a trust spotlight webcam. It is clipped to the monitor in front and is directed at me.
- start FreeTrack.exe
- source Trust webcam
- set Stream and Camera settings according to manual
- press Start button

FreeTrack crashes: the popup sais: "FreeTrack stopped working. A problem occurred etc....". There's no helpful error message.

I use windows 7 64 bits. I also tried to set start FreeTrack in windowsXP compatibility mode.

I use a 5 mm red led. Can anyone think of an obvious reason for this ?

I tested the same on an older windows XP system. Now FreeTrack.exe does not crash, but is simply exits as soon as I press the start button. Could it be an incompatibility of the Trust Spotlight webcam, for example the YUY2 compression ?

Make sure you run Freetrack as administrator.

Are there any useful error code numbers on the old XP computer?

I don't know what is yours, but these are on the list of incompatible webcams:
Trust WB-3400T
Trust WB-3100p
Trust WB-1400T

I started it as administrator, but it crashed in the same way. On the XP computer there's no errorcode as well, although the windows popups after a crash states that the problem was caused by ModName: freetrackfiltersse2.ax.

The webcam is a Trust Spotlight webcam, not one of the types you referred to.

The demo video works okay.

On the windows 7 64 bits machine there is a difference between version 2.2.0 and 2.1.2:

- version 2.2.0 crashes immediately at startup of FreeTrck.exe with the following information:
Exception EAccessViolation in module FreeTrack.exe at 00019779
Access violation at address 00419779 in module 'FreeTracker.exe'
Read of address 40239CA6

I've tried this as administrator as well, but that made no difference.

- version 2.1.2 crashes after pressing the start button.

Did you try any other settings for stream and camera?
Resolution, etc.

Seems to be a problem of driver.

Tried different settings and other resolutions, but it makes no difference whatsoever. It's curious that it works on none of my computers, so it's most likely not related to 64 bits or windows 7. It may be related to the webcam but on the other hand, I would expect a more helpful error message then. I will try it on a few other computers as well and see if I can find something.

I tried FreeTrack.exe on a laptop with both the existing webcam on the laptop and the Trust spotlight webcam, and in both cases it works fine. So, I don't know why it crashes on my windows 7 64 bits computer. Both the laptop and the desktop (64 bits PC) have windows 7 professional installed and both have direct X version 11. On the laptop FreeTrack 2.1.2 works okay with the trust webcam, but on the desktop PC it crashes as soon as I press the start button. The only difference I can think of is the GPU. On the desktop (that crashes) I have an NVidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti. Could that be the problem ?

Now I tested a different webcam, the logitech quick cam pro 4000, on the windows 7 64 desktop. FreeTrack v.2.2 crashes immediately on startup, but version 2.1.2 works for some time after pressing the start button. And then after 10 seconds to 1 minute it crashes after all. Still no error messages.

Curious indeed. Other users have made the same experience.
I don't really see the cause.
Freetrack 2.2 works fine on my Win8 64bit with a Logitech 5000Pro.

Hi,
I think I know you problem, I had to change a setting to solve it.I made a screenshot of it.If I change it to normal(125%) I have the same problem.Posted Image
It is a setting in controlpanel(=configuratiescherm) where you can make words better readable(bigger)
If you can't figure out where to find it,let me know and I will spent some more time on it to find the words for the steps you have to take to get there

I've tried this as administrator as well, but that made no difference

Did you also turn UAC(user account Control) of?

Yes, that works: if I set the dpi to 100% it doesn't crash. However, after  some time FreeTrack disappears from the desktop and I can only terminate it by killing the process in the windows taskmanager.

If "auto minimize" is checked in the global  options Freetrack reduces to system tray after some seconds.

Hi butterfly,
in win7 you can choose to show al the icon or to show only a few.
If you choose to show all the icons and auto minimize of freetrack is enabled you will see the icon of freetrack apear in the systemtray. And you can restore freetrack and do what you want.
I have always auto minimize enabled when I start to fly because they adviced to do so for better tracking.
