First I dont think my download of freetrack is good.
I did what the man on youtube said to do.
I ordered the leds SFH 485p 1-1/2 vdc.
I ordered the Micresoft camera # 1000 and modified it as he said.
Fixed my cap like he said.
The camera can see a TV remote control. But it can not see the leds.
When I load freetrack  it will play the demo but will not work with camera.
When i try to start by pushing the start button it says cannot be proformed
becouse the pins are not conected.
I have a hat track Old 2009 mod. but never cold get it to work good.
I didn't want to pay $200.00 for the new mod. So I wanted to try freetrack.
I have a good computer 8 gb ram, GeForce GT 430 graphics card , windows 7
64 bit, wish I could get this thing to work for me. I'm a old pilot. Flying in the
AF in the 1950s, I have a good setup of Saitek controles switch panal, auto pilot, duble stack radios, yoke,  throttle quadrant for 4 engins.
I've loged over 1000 hrs with FS X. I have lots of fun flying this thing sence
I sold my last aircraft. I,m 77 years old.
Can someone please help me. Thanks, Earl

Hi eclaney,

You have removed the ir-filter of your webcam. You must be able to see the ir-leds light-up.You can double check your leds with a digital photocamera (or smartphone). If they are not visible my conclusion is the leds don't work. What powersource did you use? What resistor did you use.Maybe you blew up your leds or connected wrong.

My setup is as followed: 3xSFH485p in serie with a 10 ohm resistor.I use usb as powersource(battery backup for my smartphone with usb output).Just so you can compare with what you use.

Which version of freetrack do you have?Version 2.2.0.279 is the latest.

You webcam, did you install the software first and connect later the webcam or did you connect the webcam first and install the software/drivers later?Sometimes you have to turn off UAC in windows to install things correctly.

I wait for your answer and will give it a try to find a sollution for you.
Iam sure it can work on you pc.

Do not miss the obvious, LEDs are polarity sensitive. The flat on the side of the LED is negative. Look at second picture.

Hi,
Do you mean also that you can use your cam with freetrack?
That jumping around of your leds is because you have to adjust a few things.
If freetrack can use your cam, go to cam tab.
Click on "stream"
Jou can change "rgb 24"in to "I420"
Change the resolution from 320 x 240  into 640 x 480.
Probably every time you start freetrack you have to change this.
On the right of the tab stream there you see a tab camera.Click on it,
choose outdoor(instead of indoor).
Disable auto exposure. If you can't, Iwill explain it the next time

Go to the  model tab.
You must choose there your model type, and fill in the dimensions of you model

If you filled in the dimension and your model type right then you can go to the
profile tab.Choose for example flight simulator 2004.
Sensitivity means: if you set it minimal, your head won't move.Set it to maximum and you head moves to far and quickly.
Smoothing is a sort of shockabsorber.Put it to max and it looks like you are drunk.

On the curves tab you can ad some deadzone to the axis.If the movement of your head is a bit nervous, you can make the deadzone bigger.

It will take some time to get it working smooth. But keep in mind, when it works the way it should be, you get a greater pleasure of flightsim.

Hi, Boy what you told me was on the ball.  I set up two windows, free track and FSX and made lots of adjustment till everything looked good.  But when I brought up just FSX it is unusable because all movements are too jerky.
What can I do to smooth the movements?

Hi Earl,
I have read somewhere on this forum that it is always better to minimize freetrack when you start your game.Freetrack uses less recources of your computer when it is minimized. But for adjusting it can be usefull.
I think hou have to increase the smoothing in your profile.I think, just to try increase the smoothing just only for one axis so you can see if it gives the improvement you seek.
You are sure you filled in the right values in the model dimensions tab?
What do you see in the cam tab?Do you only see the ir-leds?
How many "frp" and "jps"do you have?
Did you disable the auto exposure? We put a filter for the camera to block normal light and the auto exposure just tries to get more light.Thats why  it is better to turn it off.

Check in freetrack if the balls are green (right under in freetrack)If they become red sometimes the tracking is not good.
So you have got something to try and to answer.
With jerky you mean, you can't keep your view focussed? If that's the problem you have you can go to the curves tab.Right click, go the deadzone and select larger deadzone.Just try and see what diffference it makes.
I use a larger deadzone for all axis.It gave me a better view for aiming.
On the control tab you can make a keycommand for temporary stablelizing the smoothing.
So you see, with freetrack, there is more to explore!!

Hello, Well I worked and worked on it but could not get it good without jurking.
I think my computer needs an upgrade. It's the old AM2 AMD 3.10 MHz.
8 GB of DDR2 Mem.
I think I'll go with AMD AM3 4.30 Mhz, 16 GB of 1600 DDR3 Mem. and a new
motherboard to handle it.
Then I think FSX and head track will work better. What do you think?
Earl.

Hi earl,
To be honest, Iam convinced your computer can handle it.Fsx is not so heavy game. They say at least 1GHZ(yours 3.1GHZ)You have ram enough and your graphiccard? They say you must have at least 32MB.You have more, Iam sure.
I think it must be some setting we have to adjust.
Give me some time for a little research and experimenting.

Hi, Thanks for the help. I'm at the simulator now it's in a bilding next to my ofice. Been working for about 3 hrs. trying every thing I can think to do.but no luck. I have made changes in freetrack and FSX. no luck. It seams to be ok untell I start moving the aircraft then it starts jurking and hanging up.
I would love this thing if it work good for me. I'll try any thing you tell me to try.
Thanks again , Earl

Well i just ordered from tiger, prosser, mother board, 16 gb DDR3 mem. and opereating system. I got the fastest AMD 4.30 GHz that I could find. That should make that thing blaze. Then I can max out all the graphics in FSX and run freetrack smooth.
Hopefuly...   Earl
