Sorry it took me so long to come back with a reply, It should work with a reflective system fine, as long as your reflective system works well. I have seen other point tracking systems using a wiimote with a reflective system that worked very well. Since the blob data is calculated in the wiimote itself, I don't see how this will be any different for freetrack as well. My next statement applies to SO MANY topics in the whole forum: Just remember that both the software, and the hardware depend on each other to work well. We already know the software works nearly perfectly, so your hardware needs to be just as good to get the best out of it. Thanks everyone, Marcus

i dont see why it shouldnt work, thanks again for your good advice marcus. cheers |

I've got two webcams that don't seem to work well at with freetrack, though I'm convinced some heavy tweaking would get them to work...
One is a PCLine 100k, which refuses to do anything over 8fps, unless exposure is set to 0, and the same with an Advent ADE-13MP (or 1300k, I think they're both the same) with much the same problem. Strange thing is that they seem to work at a nice 30fps for a fraction of a second when set to 0 exposure, then the led's disappear, though the webcam still runs at 30fps according to freetrack. On exposure = 1 sometimes it works, though the LEDs disappear off screen once I get more than 18 inches or so away from the screen, it's very odd as they disappear in a very definite fashion, as if after a certain distance they just cut off completely, not down to focus or strength of the LED. In any case, I really can't wait till freetrack works with a wiimote, I've got all the gubbins needed, just need the software I take it the wiimote can track more than two "blobs" then? I know the default on the WII is two on the sensor bar, I was just wondering whether the wiimote will transmit data for a 3rd blob, or is that what you guys are working on to get it working with freetrack? Anyhow, good luck and thanks for bringing such a great piece of software to the masses! |

Anyone have an ETA on the wiimote update? Just a ballbark timeframe would be great.
I'm going to be buying a webcam this week but I thought I'd check here quick in case the wiimote update is imminent. |

I guess having seen the 3 youtube videos by Johny Chung Lee, that the Wiimote will replace the Webcam in this setup, so Marcus, can you confirm that the idea you have for the Wiimote will still require your cap
Marcus' cap £15 WiiMote £25 Bluetooth Dongle £9 Freetrack software PRICELESS Total setup £49 TIR system £120 MWAHAHAHAHA |

Not necessarily my cap, You can use any setup you wish. I'm planning on something for the wiimote itself to help with tracking.

Bump!
I have a wii-remote now, and I HAD a webcam, but I jacked up the lens trying to remove the IR coating in a crude fashion. I'd like to know if I should hold off on buying a new webcam... so a rough idea of when I might expect 2.2's release would ease my itch. FWIW, I really think it's awesome you guys do this as a hobby of sorts, and I'm always impressed that people who are passionate about their projects can produce such fantastic results compared to the overpriced commercial counterparts.... FreeTrack, Ubuntu, Xbox Media Center, etc.... Thanks for all the hard work. |

Bought for the Johnny Chung implementation, but never took it out of the packaging. Have a compatible bluetooth dongle too. Will be using this for LFS, and whatever else I can get it to work with! Can't wait much longer
Thanks!

I purchase the Wiimote, just for the head tracking. I am awaiting the next FreeTrack version so I can hopefully get the thing to work inside SolidWorks.
I will add that the Bluetooth connection with the Wiimote is not a guaranteed thing. I have had problems, and it currently does not work with my work computer, even though the Bluetooth is talking to it. I decided to lay it aside until I have the FreeTrack available to work with it. Joe Dunfee |
