It has been confirmed that Arma 2 on Steam will have no Securom. Would this make it easier to fix? Still might be a problem with fade, but would fade notice such a small fix in a dll file?

If it does integrity checks on the exe image in memory using a cryptographic hash algorithm it would be able to detect errors down to a single bit.

I just heard yesterday about FreeTrack, got so excited about the possibility
of playing ARMA 2 with it, and BAM, I find this, and the threads on BIS forums....

So sad!!!!!!!!

Come on, anybody, tell me what you need to make it work,
I promise to do whatever I can to help!!!

I'll send threatening letters, bribe people, sell my children into slavery!!!!!!

;)

Come on people, let's make it work!!!!

Sadly, Bohemia aren't interested in "hearing us" - they've just shut the whole Freetrack in Arma2 forum thread down - for the second time....

It very much looks like a hack is the gonna be the only way... Unless Freetrack Devs themselves approach BIS maybe...

if BIS say "F*** Off - we're bought and paid for by Naturalpoint" then at least we know where we stand...

Agreed, seems like the NP has a thight grip on Bis throat....

I'm a little worried that no other Ft devs seem to hang around here anymore than Babasior.... Anyway, here it goes....

I plea FT devs to hear us out and either contact directly to BIS developers to start / suggest implemention of FT API. Or inform us  fans whats to come, even if nothing.

There's nothing stopping them from supporting FT if they wanted to, the SDK is freely available.

Apparently they don't want to support FT.

It may be that in signing the agreement with Naturalpoint to include the TrackIR API in arma2, BIS also thereby agree NOT to install any other tracking API whatsoever...

The encoded API plus tying - possibly unsuspecting - developers down to an exclusive contract is Naturalpoint/TrackIR's way of cornering and monopolising the market...

So it may well be the case that BIS are legally obliged NOT to install the Freetrack API...
We don't know, and basically they've shut down two of their forum threads in a row when we asked...
Theres been NO word on the topic from BIS one way or another - complete stonewall silence...

My bet is they ARE tied to an exclusive contract an they're just embarrased that we know about it...

HOWEVER - having said that, I've also seen - on the BIS forums - actual moderators, if not Devs saying that (not exact quote)...

"Freetrack haven't approached us about including their API"
"Theres nothing to stop the Freetrack Devs from approaching us and asking for their API to be included"

and other statements along those lines.....

It seems that just saying "the SDK is available" isn't enough for them... they want to be asked - by the Freetrack Developers...

So - I personally think it would be an absolutely GREAT idea if we could somehow persuade one of the actual Freetrack Devs to properly and formally approach BIS - asking for their API to be implemented into a forthcoming patch...

Just as they want - a proper, professional, one software house to another, formal approach and request, with a copy of the SDK all wrapped up and shiny looking.....

They can completely ignore us on forums, they can ignore our emails - we're just customers - we can be safely ignored...

But a formal approach by "Freetrack" HAS to receive a proper reply... They CAN'T simply blank them like they can - and do - with us...
..

And then we'd know EXACTLY where we stand... EXACTLY....

So - I'm a bit of a noob around here, as you can see from my postcount - but does anybody actually know any of the Freetrack Devs ???

Is it even possible they'd do some sort of formal letter + SDK and approach BIS ???

Freetrack Devs.... are you here ?????

I plea FT devs to hear us out and either contact directly to BIS developers to start / suggest implemention of FT API. Or inform us  fans whats to come, even if nothing.

Snow

I hope the people involved don't mind being quoted like this, but I thought everyone here should get to read this:

Because I see little reason to do so. I am sorry, but we are unable to support a device which is very little widespread. There is nothing going "behind", there is no exclusivity for NaturalPoint, but TrackIR installed base seems to be a lot larger that FreeTrack has, which is why we have built in support for TrackIR but not for FreeTrack. Once there will be more FreeTrack users, we can reconsider the support again.

Suma is one of the devs for BI, so what he says can be believed. If you have any interest in this, please post you views in this poll, it might just make the difference. (I'm very pleased to see someone from BI comment that there is no exclusivity deal with TrackIR. The shenanigans with Eagle Dynamics for Black Shark left a decidedly nasty taste in my mouth)

I don't believe him to be honest. He says he wants to support the majority, this is done by using an open interface, not a closed one tied to a single brand. He's admitting to siding with an exclusive monopoly which is not something a neutral person would do.

- Edit -

I am sorry, but we are unable to support a device which is very little widespread.

Oh and FT is not a device; it's software. It can use webcams and wiimotes which number in the hundreds of millions, many more than TIR devices.
