logitech quick cam 3000 pro (old model)
it works decently. 30fps@320x240 25fps@352x288 (640x480 unusable) very good image quality (no noise) manual exposure manual quality settings very easy to remove IR filter (remove lens block and unscrew the plastic CCD sensor cover. the filter is there. remove it and replace it with some light filter -cut a square piece from the magnetic disk of a floppy for example) I420 compression decent filed of view about 10% cpu usage sorry for my bad english. :) |

Does anyone know if a non name brand wii remote will work? I found this one and it's inexpensive.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28576 I don't see why it wouldn't work. I think I will be giving this one a shot but some feedback would be nice. |

EDIT Setting up a brand new 3 point clip with osram IR leds the situation changed. pro: 30fps@640x480 30fps@352x288 30fps@320x240 very good image quality (maximum 10 jps) manual exposure manual quality settings very easy to remove IR filter (remove lens block and unscrew the plastic CCD sensor cover. the filter is there. remove it and replace it with some light filter -cut a square piece from the magnetic disk of a floppy for example) I420 compression cons: poor filed of view about 10% cpu usage |

Here are the components I used for a simple 2 DOF freetrack system.
I purchased 10 SFH485P for $6.81 including shipping ($2.07) from Digi-Key. So I got 9 spares to build clips or hats. There was a price break at 10 pieces. 10 pcs for $.44 each or 1-9 for $.77 each. Almost twice as many for same price. (10 versus 5) A Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks V-USB47 ($18 includes shipping off e-bay) I removed the IR filter which is basically just breaking the very thin piece of colored glass. Replace that glass with small circular piece of floppy disk media and reassembled. Need to readjust focus for optimal results. A Photon Micro Lite II which I had laying around. (about $12) I disassembled it and replaced the blue LED with the new IR LED. Removed all the extra metal rings and installed some velcro materials on it and my microphone/headset. Setup for i420 at 352x288 and get consistent 30fps and 0-1 jitter. Works great for the flight sims I play. |

Creative Live! Cam Notebook Pro (VF0250)
WILL NOT WORK!! this cam appears to work very well in freetrack (setting up and 'testing'), but once you launch a game the driver will act up and freetrack will give the most weird tracking and ultralow performance.. because the cam appears to work well in freetrack-setup i spent 2 days in trying all available versions of drivers, freetrack and games.. nothing helped.. at last i desperately grabbed another cam and had *perfect* tracking ingame instantly: Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD PERFECT TRACKING INSTANTLY *WITHOUT* MODIFICATIONS!!! i'm using this cam right out of the box, without any IR-mods. i'm not using IR-LEDs, but ultrabright 5mm *WHITE* LEDs (i had to file them flat for consistent tracking). amazingly this works perfekt even in daylight and with a 75W bulb in view 3m behind. |
