I'm buying a webcam for Free-Track.  I can get the Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 for the same price as the VX-1000 by shopping online.

Is one better than the other for the purposes of Free-Track?

Both cameras have the same video resolution and frame-rate.

The free-track webcam compatibility page mentions the VX-1000 has an easy to remove IR filter.  It doesn't say anything about the IR filter for the VX-3000.  Is the VX-3000 just as easy to configure?  Or does the VX-3000 not require the removal of its IR filter?

The webcam compatibility page also says the VX-1000 requires the installation of an "Enable Button" to disable auto-exposure.  No mention for the VX-3000 about auto-exposure.  Does the VX-3000 also require the Enable Button?

I'm attracted to the VX-3000 since it has some other features like pan and zoom.  However, I don't know if this helps setup free-track.  But the compatibility description says it works "perfectly" with 4-point setup.  Don't know about 3-point, which is what I'll likely use.

The main reason I would buy the VX-1000 is it is a very popular webcam for free-track and there are more existing online guides for setting it up.

Any advice?  VX-1000 or VX-3000 and why?  Thanks, in advance!  I'd appreciate any quick response as I plan to buy it today.

Hello ;)

No worries about the last sentence : if it works with 4 point cap, it will be the same with 3 or even 1  point ;) !

Go for the VX-3000, *.

You will disable ALL extra features any way, but read a little further.

* if you are lucky, you dont have to remove the IR filter in the VX-3000 (but i dont know). - I didt not need to do that on my, Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000, just add a piece of Floppy Disk in front. -so it still works as a webcam, should i ever need that.

Best of Luck.
