Class : Apprenti Posts : 6 Registered on : 21/01/2008 Off line	Hi, I have a quickcam Messenger that I bought about 4-5 years ago. I took it apart to get the IR filter out but I didn't manage. The filter is somehow stuck inside the lens. And the lens is stuck inside the housing. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the lens out. The webcam is one that is found on this website on the compatibility page. It looks identical to the picture there. Has anybody managed to get it working? And can anybody recommend a cheap webcam that will work "perfectly" with FreeTrack? BFC

You have to open it up and unscrew the black plastic lense fitting off the main part of the cam and look for a small convex red silvery type of lense inside. I used a sharp knife and popped it out. It is only around 3mm. Although I got it working I did find that this model of webcam (if yours is the same) has too narrow a field of view to use for Freetrack. I bought a VX1000 in the end and it works great. Good luck, J

Class : Apprenti Posts : 6 Registered on : 21/01/2008 Off line	Hi Jazzer, Thanks for the info. I was actually trying to use a really thin screwdriver to get the lens out but I didn't manage. Instead the lens chipped slightly. I was just thinking about getting the VX-1000. It's cheap and seems to work for everyone. (I read somewhere that you have to "fix" the software regarding auto-exposure or something.) What kind of configuration do you have? I was planning on making the 3-point cap configuration. BFC

Currently available Logitech Quickcam Messengers seem ok: `Very easy to mod for IR only mode : unscrew case, unscrew piece of plastic housing around the cmos chip, pop out IR filter set in plastic housing, install piece of photographic film or radiographic sheet in same place, screw plastic housing, screw case, Done !!` http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=39&page=2#1329 Remember the list of compatible webcams should only be used as a guide for currently available webcams, older webcams may be very different, even though they share the same name. Class : Apprenti Posts : 11 Registered on : 05/08/2007 Off line	I'm using a Logitech Quickcam messenger. It's completely black and about two years old. Works great except it uses quite a lot cpu ~40-47% on a AMD 3200 Venice.

I was planning on making the 3-point cap configuration. BFC Mine is a 3 point cap. Made out of old TV remote controls. Cheap and cheerful! Works really well though.
