I decided I'd like a very accurate way to track my head (to use as a mouse, mostly), and I looked up a little on this. However, I'm wondering if this set-up is feasible:
1)http://www.ebay.com/itm/321705285148/ Recommended as a good camera to use, if there are any that would be more accurate for a similiar price, that'd be great! 2)This Setup of LED's (of course only use 3/4, remove the others): http://www.dx.com/p/30-led-2-mode-battery-powered-blue-string-light-3-aa-3-5m-length-46567#.VWnh8Nziuis -Are these LED-s OK to use with the PS3 Camera? I don't rally need to use IR LED's, as there's not much other light in my computer area. 3)I already have this headset (I will be using this to dictate as well): http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Headset-Over--Design/dp/B005GTO07O/ I'd like to just position the LED's on 3 points; two on each ear, and one on top. I see a lot of posts with the side led clip, but if I can just have them directly on the headset, that'd be better! Would this work? Thanks! |

Hi,
1) the ps3-eye is indeed a good webcam for headtracking, but sometimes not so easy to prepare for using as an headtracking device. If you use the search function on this forum you will find a lot of info about it. 2) you can always try, if there is like you said not much other light in your room. 3)if you attache the leds to your headphone you must do it in a way that all the time the three leds are good visible and you see the three green dots in Freetrack. But for good tracking you need some dimension like used for a cap or clip. There must be a difference between the middle led and the other two. this is what they say in the manual. Which dimensions should I use when I build my model ? Are there any special considerations for the 3 point cap model? The plane defined by the 3 points should never get close to being parallel with the camera plane (normally a vertical plane) when pitching downward, otherwise tracking becomes extremely unstable. This can be avoided by moving the model's middle point further back and/or reducing its height. Can the middle point of the three point cap be forward of the other two points instead of behind? Yes, as long as it is forward enough to avoid the above mentioned special consideration, yaw and pitch will be opposite so you'll need to invert them in your profiles. |

Thanks for the advice!
I will put the 2 side light's as far forward as possible, and the middle one on the top as far back, hopefully getting closer to the recommended angle! I was thinking about it, and may just get 2 Rechargeable USB LED Flashlghts on ebay, then then will be no wires at all! Or I get something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110974853258/ But I imagine the battery doesn't last long, and I'd have to rig it so the on button will stay pressed down. |

isn't it easier to just buy a few leds and a resistor?Iam a afraid that the viewing angle will not be good enough for tracking of those led things.
Have you read this guide how easy it can be? http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1856 if you think that you can't built it yourself, maybe Spoilerhttp://www.delanengineering.com/ is something for you |
