I wish if possible to also retain the use of the webcam for Skype so don't want to have to remove the internal filter. What other options do I have??.
That depends on your Cam and the possibilities to change cam-settings. I'm using a Logitech Qickcam 5000 and I don't need any modification, just a daylight-filter (which is an old part of a ir-sensor-filter from VHS-recorder.)
And it works fine with every ir-Leds and full daylight.
The circles that indicate "Freetrack" working are not turning to green as I think they should (only once) and there are mutiple "+" signs on the screen which I think indicates too much other light being recognised by the cam.
This is right, you need to have
one "+" on every Led-point for good tracking.
I don't now what cam you use. This is what I would try:
In a dark room:
Turn the threshold-slider in Freetrack to 50%.
Turn every cam settings to min. Disable auto-functions. And then turn them up until you get your three led points with one "+", working in every head-position.
Later, if you got other light-sources in the room you can try different filters (colored plastic, floppy-disk, etc. ) to avoid them disturbing your tracking.
It will not working with normal cam-settings and without any filter. So you have to change every time you use your cam with Freetrack.
