Hi!
I've been with this great project for a couple of years, testing and trying with normal leds in a dark room etc, with a wiimote. Now as I've bought a fairly good wheel and a joystick for simulation games, I would really like to make a better set. I would like a cap, as I don't always use a headset, or only use a BT headset. So I'm considering mounting 3/4 leds to a cap, and use that with the wii-mote. Where can I get proper IR-leds? I bought some from eBay, but I'm not quite sure about the voltage on them. So after trying (and failing), I finally got one to work without burning it up. But it wasn't a good led. I had to point it directly to the camera, at max. 10 cm distance. So what I want is some tips on which IR-leds I can buy from eBay, that would be easy to use (voltage which would allow me to serial/parallell connect on 3/4,5v volts etc. I was also considering using a wireless wii-sensor bar, but it might be overkill. Someone please point me in the correct direction here. |

I'm located in Norway. That's why I was thinking of eBay. Most IR-leds have free shipping, but I'm not quite sure which to buy.

You could try here.
Osram SFH485P http://shop.strato.de/epages/15485180.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/15485180/Categories/%22Osram%20Opto%22 It was mentioned here; http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1999 I recommend at least buying 10 to 12 pieces to justify shipping charges. Shipping is always expensive. Buying 10 to 12 makes the most sense, besides you have extras or can build more for friends.

Thanks dude!
Just bought a battery holder + these leds. (I choose outside EU, is that wrong?) Norway is not a EU-member. Anyways; I need min. three 30ohm 1/4 watts right? |

Are you wiring the LEDs in series like this;
If you are, then one 30 ohm resistor is all you need. This will give a current of 50 mA. I am in the US, so I have no clue about the EU requirements. |

I just saw this picture:
http://www.wwiionline.de/forum/showpost.php?p=45434&postcount=27 But anyways; I would need 30ohm resistors right? I can only buy them in piles of 100s :P So why exactly do I need a resistor? |

That link shows parallel wiring of LEDs with a 3 volt power source. You need to tell me what you exactly want. Series LED wiring or parallel LED wiring? 6 volt supply ( 4 @ 1.5v AA) or 3 volt supply ( 2@ 1.5v AA)? The resistors are use to limit the current to the LED to a safe operating current for a given supply voltage. |

Hi!
I wanted 3V (2@ 1,5v AA) and parallell. This should be OK then right? |

For parallel LEDs: Using a 30 ohm resistor for each LED is 50mA with a 3 volt supply is correct. |
