Hello!
I'm doing this tutorial to teach how to make a on/off switch for your freetrack hardware system. First, you need to understand how a switch works. I'll make this tutorial using this switch as base: Here is a schematic view of how it works: You have to weld the led in one of those pins under the switch. The pins in it's extremities are the positive ones, and the one in the middle is the negative pole one. So, you weld a cable in the negative pole of the led, then weld it to the middle pin of the switch. Then, take the positive and weld to one of the pins in the extremities, leave the other pin unused. Your system should be like this by now: Now, you have to connect the power supply cables to the switch. In my case, I've used an battery support like this: Take the positive wire, the red one, and weld it on the switch in the same pin you've weld the positive pole of the led. Then, make the same thing with the negative. Weld it to the same pin you've weld the negative pole. If you've done everything correct, your system should be like this: That's it, the hole thing should be working now Important! Check if there's any connection between the positive and the negative pole on the switch, if you've done an bad weld and the positive and the negative pole are conected, it might result in a short-circuit. PS: Those pins are brazil's standard, I don't know how it might be in other countries, so it would be good to check before doing exactly according to the tutorial. PS [2]: I've learned by now to do it too, by trying and trying, so my methods may not be the recommended ones, so if you know any way easier or safer to do it, feel free to suggest. Good luck everyone! |

The way you have made the circuit diagram is incorrect.
With the way it is shown, if you toggle the switch, it just shorts out the battery. That is definitely not the way to shut LED power off. Also leads to very short lived batteries. The correct method is to hook the black lead of battery to cathode of LED, the red battery lead to the center post of switch, then the anode of the LED through a resistor to either one of the outer switch posts.

Hmm, it worked for me, and the guy that sold me the switch said it's meant to be that way o.O
It would be better to delet this topic then, so we can spare some batteries lol Sorry for doing the tutorial wrong then, and thanks for the tips, I'll stop using the switch by now and see if I can find what's wrong with it... |

Sorry for double post, I've sent the message and appeared an error message, I thought it hadn't been sent, then I sent it again (how many sents lol)
