With version 2.2 I get an acces violation error when I click the Start button or the Camera button to bring up the camera properties.
The error is: Access Violation in module MFC42.DLL.
I reverted back to v2.1, and it works fine!
So, it seems there is a problem with v2.2 somewhere.

The first forum topic you mentioned seems a different problem.
The second forum topic as well: I tried registering manually, and it didn't fix the problem (by the way registering D3DX92ab.dll succeeded, but gave an error message about entry point.)
I tried replacing mfc42.dll with the one from dllfiles.com. It SOLVES the access violation error, BUT my Camera properties screen is now different, and I lose some settings of the webcam. (for instance I cannot any more set the R,G,B Gain which I could before and the White Balance)
So, I either have to stick with 2.1, which lacks some nice features, or lose some detailed control over my webcam!

Late to the party but using the linked DLL and placing it into the Freetrack directory also solved the access violation problem in my case (Windows file protection making it too hard to replace the mfc42.dll in system32).
I'm fine with the video settings it gives.
