I want to use the Illuminated points method with points on the cap Illuminated by an IR source.  I have seen that this is somewhat unchartered territory :pirate: , but any experience will be greatly apreciated. :D

I plan on using either Microsoft VX1000 or 3000

I am thinking of using a small IR illuminator, like those used in security applications, that will sit next to the camera. Will this illuminate the points enough

OR I will create my own, either built flat along the top of the monitor like 10-20even from left to right OR a circle around/ontop of the camera. Will this illuminate the points enough

Also will I need wide angle LEDs or can I use 30 degree IR LEDs and sand them down if needed.

Thanks for any expertise given.

This is just speculating, not from experience, but I suspect that sanding reduces the total output. That is, unless the LED is buffed so that the finished surface is smooth and clear.  I read somewhere that buffing actually heats the surface of a plastic so that it melts a bit and that is what really makes it smooth.

As an alternative, to spread the light out more, just bend some of the LED's out a bit, so that they cover a larger area.
